Herman & Tekamah, Nebraska

We went to Nebraska for the auction of my grandfather's farm.  In this region, that is largely how farm property is sold.  It was the first time in a VERY long time that farm land had been auctioned in the area - the week before no one attended the auction for another property.  It snowed fiercely the night before, but there were 150+ people that turned out for the auction.  Most of the people in the room were millionaires and you could never tell by looking at them!  Here are pictures of our family farm in Herman, Nebraska.

I will never forget my Grandpa explaining to me why he terraced the land to help with erosion issues.

The pictures above are of my grandpa's barns and cellar.  Below was my grandpa's office where he sold Pioneer Seed Corn and would tend to his books.

As I said earlier, we had a terrible snow storm with over a foot of snow.  The pictures below are of Tekamah, where the auction was held.  My grandparents moved here to be in the 'city.'  The population is just over 1,000.

Through the years, I have learned my grandparents almost purchased the home below (which is now Tekamah's Museum and my grandpa was their bookkeeper), but felt it would be too flashy for them.
