Texas Independence Relay

This was the inaugural run of the Texas Independence Relay.  Yes, you might determine I am nuts after you hear what it entails!  This is an around the clock run for 203.67 miles, 40 relay legs and you sleep in vans for the entire ~36 hours.  The course takes you from Gonzales and winds around to the Battleground Monument.  Each person ran approximately a marathon in distance, but spread out in time.  The first and last mile are run together.  My times after that were 2pm (in the 95 degree heat and hills), midnight, 4am and 8am.

Billy, Bailey & I stayed at The Guesthouse Cabana.  Over the last few weeks, I have heard people talking about a cabana and they truly do NOT know the definition of a cabana.  We had 3 bedrooms, kitchen and a huge den and game room - complete with an entire side of french doors leading out to the pool.  My brother also ran the race, but for a different team!  They had to for a work 'team building' experience!

Here we are at the start and running our first mile together!

Billy & Bailey found me as I ran along Memorial.  Also, I saw my brother!
